How to Choose Safe Blankets for Pets
The best blanket for your pet is one that suits the way they actually use it. A pet who quietly curls up has different needs from one who pulls at seams or chews fabric.
Keep the design simple
Choose a soft, washable blanket that fits the resting area without a large pile of extra material. Avoid dangling fringe, tassels, and loose knits that can catch teeth or nails. A lightweight blanket is usually easier to manage than a heavy or weighted one.
Watch before leaving it unattended
Introduce new bedding while you can observe your pet. Remove it if your pet tears off or swallows pieces: fabric can cause a digestive blockage. A blanket is not a good choice for a pet who repeatedly eats bedding. Ask your veterinary team about alternatives.
Inspect, wash, and replace
Check for holes, exposed filling, and loose threads. Follow the washing instructions, use a gentle pet-friendly detergent, and dry the blanket completely before returning it to the bed. Replace damaged bedding rather than letting a small tear become a chewing target.
